Most people would like to believe that they will never require the services of a private investigator. Unfortunately, we can’t always rely on the honesty of others, and situations may arise where we need an experienced professional to help us find the truth. We are living in a time where fraud, theft & infidelity are not uncommon, and we need to take the proper steps to protect ourselves and our assets.

There are countless different situations where the expertise of a private investigator can be beneficial; whether it be for personal or professional purposes the goal is always the same, finding truth.

Many people question whether a private investigator is really necessary, and whether they can conduct an investigation themselves. There are a number of reasons why hiring a trained professional is the better choice – the skills and training to remain discreet, avoid dangerous situations, and compile admissible evidence – to name a few.

People are beginning to use private investigators on a routine basis, and the list of reasons for hiring a private investigator continues to grow. Some of the most common reasons are:

Background checks / investigations:

There are both personal and professional reasons why you may need to gather background information on an individual. Private investigators are trained to obtain this information and create a profile using numerous databases and/or local searches.

Locating missing persons, heirs, or birth parents:

There are many reasons why you may need to locate a hard-to-find individual. Private investigators are trained to conduct research and an investigation to locate the individual utilizing local, provincial and national resources.

Insurance claim investigations:

Whether the claims are from the life & health, property, or casualty sectors of insurance, private investigators are trained in all varieties of claims investigations. Thorough research and investigations are conducted to protect the business interests of the company / adjuster and to collect admissible evidence to be used in mediations, arbitrations and trial applications.

Infidelity / cheating spouse investigations:

Unfortunately, when an individual suspects that their spouse is being unfaithful, they are often correct. Private investigators are trained to get you the truth and the piece of mind that you need to move on with your life, as well as admissible evidence should the investigation be followed by court proceedings.

Corporate fraud investigations:

It’s a well-known fact that fraud and deceit are common practice within the corporate sector. Private investigators are trained in fraud detection and conduct research and investigations that protect your company and allow it to proceed with its day-to-day business and develop successfully.

Workplace harassment/violence investigations:

When an employee claims that they have been the victim of harassment or violence in the workplace, it is the employer’s responsibility to investigate to confirm whether the claim is valid. A private investigator can conduct such an investigation without bias.

These are just a small portion of the variety of reliable services provided by licensed private investigators. Services vary from company to company, but all have one common goal, finding truth.

I was adopted when I was very young, and I’ve always wanted to know who my birth parents are. I was considering hiring a private investigator to help with this, and your article had some great reasons as to why this would be a good idea. You mention that private investigators can locate individuals using local, provincial, and national resources, and I’ll be sure to keep this information in mind when looking for the woman who birthed me.
